About

An ongoing and site specific project by Medea Electronique initiated during the Koumaria 2010 residency in Sparta, Greece
Fragments of the Unseen is a continuous site-specific project initiated at the Koumaria Residency 2010. Influenced by the location and physical space, the infinite sky, endless horizon, vast olive land and the absence of human activity, a performer explores the environment with the use of multiple cameras and a set of binaural microphones attached to their body.
Regardless of the space, like an unidentifiable creature, the performer reveals in part their identity. Influenced by the surroundings, the performer creates new shapes like a chameleon that changes its basic characteristics due to the environment. The working process as well as the performance involves a multi-disciplinary approach that extends the point of view of the performer. Through this interaction a set of audiovisual samples are captured to create a new, yet related cross-art piece. It is the process that connects these pieces together.
The aim of the project is to identify environmental, sociological or political subjects that have the ability to juxtapose, contrast or question established ideas of a given space or situation. By exploring the above thematic directions – without an earlier frame of reference – the purpose is to gain awareness of a particular space and convey this through a reconstructed expression.
